Lithuania was part of Soviet Union for 50 years. Over the course of that time, Lithuania did manage to safeguard its national identity and initiated the eventual collapse of the Union. That said, the period of Soviet regime had undoubtedly left its mark.
We invite you to visit the hopeful ‘Communist Paradise’ that was never built, from up close. A horizon of grey cement blocks, bunkers, gravestones for those who believed in a different paradise and more.
Our 3 day tour offers the following adventures:
Day 1. Excursion “Signs of History: Long Way to Freedom (+KGB museum)” . A dinner in a restaurant Neringa, which was a popular venue for both bohemian crowd and the dissidents during Soviet Times. In the second part of the day, a walk in Zirmunai neighborhood which happens to be the first soviet style neighborhood, with typical boxy housing blocks (still standing today), referred to as ‘Chrushchiovkes”
This neighborhood was also home to a military post. Although it is radically transformed into a modern shopping zone these days, a few interesting spots reminding you of the past remain. Hence, our next stop – a cup of coffee or a pint can be enjoyed at a former bunker- turned nightclub, called “Cuba”. We will also visit a columbarium, the resting place for KGB victims .
Day 2. The first part of the day will be spent as part of the interactive theater performance -”1984. Survival Drama in the Soviet Bunker. In the evening we are offering a beer tasting tour.
Day 3. A vintage trolley tour across Vilnius. Ending with a dinner in the National TV Tower restaurant, offering a stunning view of the city, both old and new.
To fully immerse yourself in the soviet experience, we recommend staying in a Cold War bunker, turned guesthouse.
