Druskininkai town name is associated with the word ‘druska’, meaning salt. Druskininkas is a person who by trade extracts and produces salt and sells it. From the unmemorable times, salt mineral streams have sprung here. The healing effects of which were first tried and enjoyed by the locals. It was declared an official healing place back in 1794 by the Lithuanian-Polish king Stanislovas Augustas Poniatovskis. Back in 19th century, Druskininkai was famed in the whole of Czarist Russian Empire and beyond.
Today Druskininkai is a year round attraction, that goes beyond wellness resorts – SPA centers, health centers, impeccably curated town landscape and surround nature, active lifestyle complexes, such as Aquapark, treetop climbing park and a ski hill that operates the whole year.
